Burr Celebrates Earth Day

Burr recognized Earth Day like it does other celebrations … big, and with flair!
During an outdoor assembly in front of the intermediate school’s entrance on Friday afternoon, student speakers recited original works and urged their classmates to respect the environment through simple means such as recycling, moderating their use of water and not littering.
Huntington town councilman Dr. Dave Bennardo attended the event and praised the students for their sustained effort in partnership with the town in developing adjacent Burr Road Park.
“You talked the talk and you walked the walk,” Bennardo told the students.
Principal Dan Ciccone announced that the school was joining the PTA in celebrating Earth Day by planting trees by the school’s playground. The trees will be a tribute to retiring teachers Edith De Filippis, Elizabeth Tanzi and Tracie Morenberg, who were saluted by the audience during Friday’s ceremony.
The event culminated with the entire student body singing in unison the Burr adaptation of Joni Mitchell’s Big Yellow Taxi.
