Burr Students Head to Farm for Hands-On Agriculture Lesson

Select Burr classes had the opportunity to plant radish seeds as well as rainbow chard and collard green seedlings at the district-owned Marion Carll Farm on Wednesday.
A select group of intermediate school students — one class from each grade level at both Burr and Sawmill — now are taking part in a pilot program in agricultural education.
The program, taught by high school science teacher Ryan McGrath, with the help of special education teachers Drew Yeager and Glenn Fitze, gives students the opportunity to visit the farm to learn about how food is grown.
Students will learn about the entire planting and harvesting process. Their activities also will include monitoring plant growth and harvesting.
